The inaugural GO TRAVEL SHOW held on SATURDAY 16TH JANUARY 2016 at the COPPER BOX ARENA at the QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARK in East London attracted OVER 700 VISITORS and 60 EXHIBITORS.

There was widespread acclaim for the innovative show concept from the DESTINATIONS, ATTRACTIONS, TOUR OPERATORS and OTHER SUPPLIERS who supported this first event, and from the GTO buyers who turned out in such substantial numbers.

The organisers, LANDOR TRAVEL PUBLICATIONS, expressed their delight at the success of the show, and their thanks to all those involved in contributing to this. CHAIRMAN PETER STONHAM commented: “I am proud of the team who put the event together in less than six months from its original announcement. I am equally delighted with the support from the GTO audience, and of the exhibitors who were prepared to back the new mission to put on an event with an original and innovative format to address the needs of an evolving group travel marketplace.”

IMG_6758Some of the event’s highlights included buyers able to enjoy waffles and beer from the BELGIUM FEATURE ZONE; exploring the BRITAIN’S DELIGHTFUL TOWN AREA with a dozen individual towns showcasing their special character and visitor opportunities, including Faversham, Melton Mowbray, Ware, Dover, and Aylesbury; RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! green screen photographic set where visitors could have their picture taken in the jungle; CROWN GREEN BOWLING courtesy of INTERCHOICE, and the CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON (ALBION) BAND and LINE DANCING, organised by IOW TOURS.

There was also a VIKING VILLAGE ENCAMPMENT organised by THE VIKINGS re-enactment group and other historical characters from the BLACK KNIGHT HISTORICAL company. Other features included a FALCONRY AREA, and the casting of commemorative coins by the NEWPORT MEDIEVAL SHIP project who brought along historical artefacts. During the day, characters from the LAUGHLINES company such as Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses and Mr Bean were to be seen around the show! IMG_6598

As well as the show, visitors were able to benefit from a taste of the Olympic Park including a walking tour organised by CITY & VILLAGE TOURS, visits to the ARCELORMITTAL ORBIT tower offering exceptional views across London, and also the chance to benefit from discount vouchers from WESTFIELD STRATFORD CITY shopping centre.

GO Passport Cover-1SHOW DIRECTOR RICHARD DYE said: “We are really delighted with the success of the first GO TRAVEL SHOW. Exhibitors were impressed by the sheer volume of quality group organisers with over 700 coming through the doors during the day. New Feature Areas and fantastic entertainment ensured that visitors too were impressed with our brand new group travel show. This event was always about offering a fresh approach to group travel exhibitions and I like to think that visitors enjoyed ‘the journey’ we offered through the world of group travel.

“There is so much more scope with the GO TRAVEL SHOW brand. For example, each visitor took home their own GO TRAVEL PASSPORT and this will be their passport to numerous offers and incentives going forward.

“This event proved that, once again, Landor Travel Publications has the credibility and the knowhow to put on a vibrant, new event that is set to become a permanent fixture in the UK’s Group Travel calendar. The team is brimming with fresh ideas for building on this initial success and developing the GO TRAVEL SHOW brand in the future.”
